RaTrust is a charity set up in 2013 to help spread the word about the importance of STI and HIV prevention. The organisation currently works with 5,000 sex workers from London and aims to reach out to even more people who are at high risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections. The idea to set up the organisation which will educate and advise people who might be at risk of contracting an STI came to life in 2008 when Dominika Rejmer's close friend contracted HIV while working in sex trade. Rejmer made it her life's mission to help the people diagnosed with HIV get the medical and psychological help they need.

The mission statement of the organisation is to lower STI and HIV infection rates to the minimum via widespread press and social media campaigns. RaTrust works closely with people who may contract an STI and educates them on ways to avoid infections. The volunteers assist people who are already infected with advice and counseling, they distribute necessary contraception and teach how to stay safe. Whenever necessary, they advise on treatment or direct potential carriers to the clinics where they can get tested.

People who have already contracted a sexually transmitted disease often have the inner feeling of being left out. They are terrified of the consequences of their condition and confused about what they can and cannot do. There are about 6,500 new cases of HIV identified every year and the statistics say that there are over 134,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in the UK alone. RaTrust offers them a space to feel safe and speak freely about their issues. Discreteness, support and judgment-free attitude are the most important values to raTrust's volunteers, as they assure the ones in need that there are people who will protect them from discrimination, intolerance and unfair prejudice.

Alarmed by the statistics which say that as many as 500,000 people get infected with STIs each year, the founders of raTrust believe that the numbers will rise drastically as long as the people learn how to protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections. Chlamydia test or HIV self test is just a first step to building an STI-free future. The real issue is the importance of education about sexual health, hygiene, and proper condom use. At raTrust's store everyone can purchase a variety of self tests, which are convenient and discreet way to detect possible STIs. The tests are processed at a trusted lab which assures maximum privacy.

RaTrust wants to promote responsible sexual behaviours and healthy approach towards sexuality, regardless of age, gender, occupation, race, religion, or sexual orientation. Among its aims it is also to protect civil and human rights of sex workers who should receive necessary medical assistance when needed.

Visit the website of the charity to learn more about their work and follow them on social networking sites to let the world know about their actions and campaigns. RaTrust believes that together we can build a better and safer future free of STI and STD stigma.
